I was both pleased and surprised that my photo ‘Play of Light’ was chosen my members as the winner in the ‘Windows/Doors’ class of our february Photo of the Month competition and overall winner. Surprised as there were so many good entries and some of my favourites were in this class (but more about ‘windows’ in another post).
It’s funny really as I had set out to take landscape photos for another class in our February comp. Having headed for Caldbeck, with my husband acting as chauffeur and bag carrier, we decided to get our priorities in the right order and have lunch first. If we needed an excuse for stopping for lunch it was that we would have to wait for the light as the middle of the day is not the best time for taking landscape shots. We decided on the Watermill cafe and as we were early we were its first customers. I absolutely loved the view from one of its windows, looking out over a mill stream, where we spotted a dipper, doing what dippers do, dipping. As it was so quiet at that moment I whipped out my camera and took a shot. And this was it. Later we walked uphill along a public bridle path ( Mungrisdale to the village of Fellside) but had to turn back after an hour or so as the day and changed to snow. I managed a quick shot at the long end of my 18-200m Tamron lens of fell ponies before turning back for home.
